Sells Sashimi Grade Fish by the Pound

“Kanpai Sushi is a great sushi place that has a cult following in Glen Echo, in a strip mall on the corner of Goldboro and MacArthur Blvd. It sells sushi/sashimi grade fish by the pound as well as take-out sushi (they don’t have any seating). This place is awesome, despite it's rather odd location.”

Excellent To-Go Sushi Establishment

“Kanpai makes excellent sushi for carry-out only. In addition to sushi, they have excellent sashimi and salads. In particular, the yellowtail sashimi is delicious! One other item that is a particular favorite is the "eel bowl," or unadon. They also carry sushi-grade fish for sale in steaks or chunks. The one down side is that Kanpai closes at 7 pm most nights (6 on Sundays).”

Awesome. Inexpensive. Cool

"The same guys that own Tako, own the small sushi carryout in the shoppes at Glen Echo (Goldsboro at Macarthur blvd). It’s awesome, inexpensive, and cool. No seating, just carryout. (Little industry secret, this is where the top caterers get their sushi from)."

Local’s Favorite Sushi Take-Out

“OK, we will share our local secret. This is the best fresh sushi around for the best price and convenience. It is a secret that the locals of the Glen Echo, Bannockburn Bethesda area have been loath to share for about 25 years. Our family's favorite takeout (only - no seating) in this dinky space in the Glen Echo Shopping Center. For those in the know, it is the origin of the well-known Tako Grill in Bethesda (same owners) and they make most of the sushi for the caterers in town. Definitely the place to get platters for your parties, as well as your lunch or dinner..”
